Volfovich: Europe should invest in peaceful economy, not in tanks

11.05.2026 | 10:00

Europe should invest not in tanks, but in a peaceful economy, State Secretary of the Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich said on the air of the Belarus 1 television channel, BelTA reports.

Aleksandr Volfovich noted that Poland, in a race with Germany, is ramping up its military capabilities. «Germany has announced plans to build Europe’s strongest army, with over 450,000 troops. For the first time since the Great Patriotic War, it is raising its voice and asserting itself as the [continent’s] most powerful nation. But its economy is collapsing, and good factories are being shut down. Living conditions for European citizens are worsening. I would like to see Polish, German, and other European leaders focus instead on peaceful matters and, above all, on socio‑economic development,» he said.

According to him, Belarus certainly sees and analyzes everything happening around its borders. «A large number of military exercises, pouring enormous sums into military budgets, purchasing new models of equipment. They are competing with each other over who can buy more tanks. It would be better if they bought combines and tractors to grow grain crops. Nevertheless, we see it, we react, and we draw certain conclusions,» emphasized Aleksandr Volfovich.

He added that Victory Day should serve as a reminder that history must be known, remembered, and correctly interpreted.
