According to Sergei Aleinik, the leaders of the two countries gave a strong impetus to the development and expansion of interregional cooperation during the official visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus earlier this year and the 3rd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan. The meeting focused on expanding interregional cooperation, which is a major driver of economic ties between Belarus and Uzbekistan. The two countries have signed around 40 interregional agreements, which are already delivering substantial economic results.
Tashkent Region, which accounts for 20% of Uzbekistan’s GDP, is one of the country’s leading regions. The total value of joint projects already underway stands at around $55 million, Sergei Aleinik noted. These include the production of cable products in Uzbekistan, copper processing and poultry production. The parties discussed a number of projects in industry and agriculture, including potato and beet production to strengthen food security. Belarus has the expertise and capacity to work jointly with Uzbekistan in these areas, both in Belarus and in Uzbekistan.
Speaking about agriculture, Sergei Aleinik noted that a joint project to build a livestock complex had been launched in Brest Oblast. The facility is expected to raise around 10,000 head of cattle, with subsequent processing and supplies of the resulting products to the Uzbek market.
Zoyir Mirzayev outlined new joint projects planned in Belarus, including the construction of a modern health and wellness resort and a wood-processing project.«We visited a great many enterprises yesterday and saw that there is potential and untapped capacity. On that basis, we already have new plans taking shape in industry, mechanical engineering, and furniture,» he said.
The parties plan to boost cooperation in pharmaceuticals, including a proposal to build a new pharmaceutical plant in Uzbekistan.
«Relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan are developing. Thanks to the political will of our presidents, all doors are open to us,» he said. "We are working with many regions of Belarus because there is enormous potential."The meeting at the Council of the Republic highlighted that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev have established productive relations between the two countries. The strategic partnership between the two countries enables both sides to move forward across all areas of cooperation. Bilateral trade is expected to reach $2 billion by 2030.
The participants also noted the close and friendly ties between the parliaments of both countries, including cooperation at international forums through the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, etc.
